This is the story of a fearless bull rider, his homecoming, and the friends who helped him bring his mezcal across the border.

El Solitario
It all begins with Señor Eleuterio García Martínez, a third-generation Maestro Mezcalero. In his youth, he was known throughout the region as El Solitario “The Loner”. A bold bull rider who traveled from town to town, living fast and fearlessly.

Sueño americano
Years later, he found himself in the United States, chasing a different kind of future. But over time, he realized the dream he was after had been waiting for him back home. That realization brought him back to Oaxaca, where he reconnected with the land, his craft, and his family’s legacy of making mezcal. His vision was simple and powerful. To one day share that legacy across the border.

La reunión
It started as a reunion trip. Old friends, some mezcal, no big plan. Then we met Eleuterio. Three industry vets, instantly drawn in by his story and his mezcal. One conversation led to a friendship. That friendship sparked a mission: bring his mezcal—and his dream—across the border.

¡Hola Güey!
The name Güey comes from that first meeting. Eleuterio, unable to remember our names, simply called us güey. A common term of endearment in Mexican Spanish, meaning “dude” or “buddy.” It stuck.

Tradicional y moderno
In San Dionisio Ocotepec, away from the industrial mezcalerías, we kept things pure and personal. Using only traditional methods and local wild maguey, we crafted a mezcal that’s smoother, subtly sweet, and made for a new generation.

SALUD GÜEY!
Güey isn’t just mezcal. It’s a way to connect, spark conversation, and reach out to your favorite hermana or hermano with nothing more than a glass and a simple, honest gesture.
